What kind of maps should I take?

Well, if you are fishing on Minnesota lakes, the best maps to use are Lake Maps for the specific lake you will be on. Lake Maps are made out of plastic sheeting and are excellent for understanding the bottom structure of the lake. You can't get them for all of the lakes, but with the major waters you sure can get a jump on finding reefs and rock piles. I personally don't care for Lake Maps for my whole route. I find them a bit hard to read especially where portages are involved.

So, you will need a regular map of the entire area for general navigation. My preferred map is a Fisher Map but some folks like to use McKenzie maps as well. McKenzies offer bigger detail so you tend to need more of them for your trip. Fishers are smaller in detail so the maps cover a broader area and you need less of them for the same route. It's all a personal preference thing and all the maps are available at our online catalog. Order Maps Here
